Tortuguero, Arenal And Cloud Forests

A tour that includes all of the popular visitor attractions of Costa Rica including the beautiful tropical waterways of Tortuguero, the amazing Arenal Volcano at La Fortuna and the Cloud Forests of Monteverde.

After a stopover night at San Jose, travel to the Tortuguero National Park where boat safari’s take you along tranquil waterways to see caimans, monkeys and turtle nesting beaches that lie along the shore. La Fortuna is the base for exploring the Arenal Volcano and its fascinating lava fields as well as to take a dip in the famous hot springs that lie in tropical foliage nearby.

The mountains of Monteverde contain some of the most important and biologically diverse Cloud Forests in the world. The best way to experience this is with a walk along its Hanging Bridges that are set high above the forest floor at tree-top height giving intimate views of the lush vegetation all around.

Day 01

Depart UK – San Jose

Hotel Barceló Palma Real

Depart UK – Arrive San Jose Airport to be met by your tour representative on arrival at the airport.

Transfer to your hotel at San Jose.

Day 02

Tortuguero

Mawamba Lodge

Tortuguero Early morning pick up from your hotel in San José. After a wonderfully scenic drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park you will stop for a typical breakfast. Continue your journey through lovely banana plantations to Caño Blanco where you board a boat for a transfer through idyllic waterways to arrive at your jungle lodge in time for lunch.

The Tropical Village Of Tortuguero In the afternoon you can either choose to relax at your lodge or visit the tropical village of Tortuguero and the Caribbean Conservation Center, dedicated to the protection of the endangered sea turtles.

Night Excursion To The Beach At Tortuguero To See Turtles Nesting Between July and September, you can take part in an optional night walk on the beach in order to observe sea turtles laying their eggs in the sand.

Day 03

Boat Tours Through The Backwater Channels Of Tortuguero National Park Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to observe birds and animals in the rainforest. Depending on the Lodge, you can enjoy an early-morning or afternoon boat tour. A pre-breakfast nature walk is offered by Mawamba Lodge and is a great opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of a forest waking up to a glorious sunrise.

Day 04

La Fortuna

Travel To The Town Of La Fortuna You will transfer back by boat to the town of Siquires and onward by vehicle through the northern plains of Costa Rica to La Fortuna. The huge shadow of the Arenal Volcano dominates the landscape around La Fortuna, which is easily Costa Rica’s premier visitor destination.

Guided Trek To View The Arenal Volcano You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will explain everything about the Arenal Volcano’s formation, eruption and the area’s eco-system. After the hike you’ll be taken to an observation point where you will have the best possible views of the volcano and the lava flows. The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, constantly rumbling and erupting. With a little luck, you can expect to see a dazzling firework display as the lava rolls down the side of the volcano.

Visit The Tropical Baldi Hot Springs The Baldi Hot Springs at Arenal feature no less than 16 pools that vary in temperature up to 95°F. While enjoying your mineral bath you can also enjoy a fabulous view of the Arenal Volcano, from which, on a clear night you can witness impressive Lava Flows. There are also 2 wet bars, an impressive restaurant, spa and changing facilities.

Day 06

Monteverde

Guided Coffee Tasting Tour At Monteverde After reaching Monteverde, in the afternoon you can go on a guided Coffee Tour. You will visit a Coffee Plantation and get to know all about the process of making coffee as well as a chance to taste plenty of the aromatic drink!

Day 07

Rainforest Walk On The Famous Hanging Bridges Of Monteverde Morning pick up at about 8:30 am for an excursion to the Selvatura Rainforest Walkways. These are trails through the cloud forest where you walk over suspension bridges and observe biodiversity high above the canopy of the jungle. It will take you about 2.5 hours to explore the reserve.

Selvatura Hummingbird Gardens Watch over 100 beautiful hummingbirds flying around you! More than 14 species of hummingbirds can be seen with their incredible aerial maneuvers and bright lively colours.

Day 08

Costa Rica’s Beaches Or San Jose

From Monteverde you can either return to San Jose or travel onwards to the nearby beach resorts of the Northern Pacific Gold Coast such as Tamarindo or resorts of the Nicoya Peninsula such as Samara.

Transfers to the Central Pacific are also possible.

NOTE: You can choose as many beach nights as you require.

NOTE: Depending on the location of your beach hotel and flight timings a stopover night at San Jose may be necessary prior to your departure.
